Therapy Dog Etiquette Class
Whether you want to work your dog in: 1. Hospitals 2. Institutions 3. Nursing Homes 4. Child Therapy 5. Physical Therapy Tool We will cover not only basic obedience to sustain control and a great relationship. We will also be teaching you how to work your dog in different aspects of Therapy Dog Work, commands to benefit type of work, etiquette and how to handle situations. Will be desensitizing the dogs to wheelchairs, walkers, crutches, noises, children, etc… Therapy Dog: is an important part of someone's physical, social, and emotional therapy activities. For example, a physical therapist might work with a patient and therapy dog to improve their physical fitness. Dog grooming, walking and even Frisbee throwing can help with coordination, strength, and flexibility. These dogs require special training and work intensely with one person at a time. Here is an example of just some of the things we will be covering:
How do you handle situations when people come up to visit with your therapy dog? What are some of the things that your dog will need to know before entering into a building? How do you contact medical establishments to start working? This class will give you a good look into many areas of Therapy Dog Work. NOTE: *We do NOT Certify Therapy Dogs. We will give you information for Certifying at a Service Dog School after the class. Testing for Canine Good Citizen will be held at the end of this class. Extra $20 for testing will be applied. **Prerequisite: Your dog has to have taken a Beginner 1 Class and be 9+ Months old.. **All participants must fill out a Therapy Dog Etiquette Class Registration form before class starts. Trainer: Cheryl Swarts - Guide Dog, Therapy Dog, Hearing Dog Trainer, Certified Kennel Management, Canine Good Citizen Instructor Date: August 5th ~ Tuesday Time: 6:30pm ~ 8pm Price: $160 +$20 for Canine Good Citizen Testing if you want 8 Weeks ~ Classes will run 1.5 Hours Max 8 dog Teams Equipment Needed:
