Ed Jakubowski – Bio DiscDogs A2Z, LLC I started competing in the sport of K-9 disc in 1978. I've been to the Ashley Whippet Invitational (AWE) World Finals 3 times with 3 different dogs (the first of only 2 handlers to ever accomplish that). 1979-Hobie (German Shepherd), 1982-Bandit (German Shepherd and Hobie’s sibling) and 1995-Zephyr (Australian Shepherd). In 2002 I became the only competitor to have taken 4 different dogs to World Finals competition with a win by Dasher (Australian Shepherd) at the Skyhoundz Regional Championships and a great showing by Dasher at the Skyhoundz World Championships in Atlanta, GA that same year. Dasher and I went on to set 2 Skyhoundz Distance Accuracy World Records at the Skyhoundz World Finals in 2004 and we also place 2nd at the US Disc Dog Nationals in Louisville, KY that same year. I was one of the first to do double dog disc demos with Hobie and Bandit in 1981. I've been a multiple Regional Finalist as well as multiple Regional Champion and World and Nationals Finalist. I was a founding member and Northeast Regional Director of K-9 Disc Masters in the early 80's and also served as the Northeast Regional Director for AWE. I was a judge at K-9 Disc Masters first World Finals in Bakersfield, Ca in 1984. I've also worked the field at many World Finals for Ashley Whippet Invitational World Finals when not there as a competitor. I have judged many different formats at all levels in the sport through the years as well as run competitions since about 1980. I wrote and administered the sports first Judges Certification for the USDDN in 2001. I have also competed in Purina Dog Challenges and in ESPN’s Great Outdoor Games. I have done many demonstrations for all sorts of venues through the years. Major sporting demos have been for the Giant, Redskins and the Patriots NFL teams, also for the NY Mets Baseball teams. I have done major demos for various dog food companies - Cycle, Gaines, Friskies and Alpo. Also, through the years, I have appeared with my various canine partners on many television networks and shows such as Wide World of Sports, Animal Planet, the Discovery channel, ESPN, ESPN2 and other national and local programs and television stations. I am a founding member of various Disc Dog Clubs such as K-9 Disc Masters, Northeast Disc Dog Network and the Yankee Flyers Dog & Disc Club. I have been an International Disc Dog Handlers Association (IDDHA) member since 1998 and have served as a judge for their National Championships in 2000 and 2001. I am a Master Certified Judge. In 1997 I was awarded the Reggie & Gilbert Award by AWE for my work with dog rescue. Also, on August 25, 2001 I was inducted into the Ashley Whippet Hall of Fame for my years of involvement in the sport of K-9 Disc as a competitor and promoter of the sport. Since 1983 when the Ashley Whippet Hall of Fame was opened, I am only the 15th inductee. In 2006 I received the Hyperflite/Skyhoundz Lifetime Achievement Award. I have run K-9 Disc clinics, given lectures and have written articles on the sport for magazines such as the Australian Shepherd Journal and Dog & Handler Magazine. After 30 years in the sport of K-9 Disc I am now continuing on in DiscDogs A2Z, LLC! Offering Shows, Demo’s and more in the sport! |
