20 QUESTIONS  YOU SHOULD ASK A DOGGIE DAYCARE?

 

  1. How many years experience does the Daycare Owner have with Dogs?

  2. Is the Owner a Dog Behaviorist and if so what school did they attend?

  3. Does the Owner know how to read dog body language and make and accurate assessment on the new dogs entering daycare?

  4. Where did the staff go to school to learn how to handle dogs, read dog body language and learn how to handle issues when it comes to dog fights?

  5. If the staff did not go to school, who taught them their job?

  6. How many dogs are in your daycare?

  7. What do you use to sanitize with and how often?

  8. Do you require your grooming dogs to have their shots too (they are in the same building)?

  9. How many people are with the dogs in daycare at any given moment?

  10. Can I see the play area?

  11. Do you have any Daycare Parent References?

  12. How do you handle fights in Daycare?

  13. What methods do you use to correct they dog for playing to rough, mouthing, jumping, biting assertively, mounting, barking, etc.?

  14. What are the shot requirements for daycare? 

  15. How often do you expect people to check their dogs stool for worms?

  16. Can the outside play areas be sanitized properly?

  17. What do you use to clean up the floor with after a dog defecates or urinates, a mop or do you hose the floor off?

  18. Am I allowed into the daycare play area when my dog is there?

  19. What Veterinarian do you use if there is a medical emergency?

  20. What is your policy when a dog gets injured? Do you call the owner for minor scratches, cuts, deep wounds, diarrhea, dehydration, vomiting, fever, and lethargy?

  4. Cheryl's staff have all attended her training classes with their personal dogs, have been guided and trained by Cheryl.  Lisa our morning Camp Counselor has 4 years experience training Service Dogs for the Disabled.  Lisa is a great mentor as well as a trainer here at Country Dog.

  8. Absolutely!  ALL dogs must show proof of Vaccinations

  9. There are ALWAYS 2 Camp Counselors in the Daycare Play Area

  11. Yes we do, Please ask Cheryl for ANY references that you may want.

  12. Any dog showing signs of aggression is immediately removed from daycare.  Only friendly dogs are allowed at Country Dog.  If a fight does break out  we use the hose to cool them off and then remove them from the Daycare area.  The hose is ONLY used on dogs for this type of issue.

  13. We do use a squirt water bottle for the initial correction which is associated with a verbal correction of Ahh Ahh or Leave It or Be Nice.  All dogs are worked with to teach them No Jumping, No Biting, Sit, Down, Stay, Leave It, Be Nice, Come, Wait and Relax.

  14. Every dog MUST be Current on their shots - Rabies, Distemper/Parvo, Corona, Kennel Cough (Bordatella), Influenza, and a negative Stool sample.

  15. Every 6 Months

  16. Yes, our floors are painted with Epoxy, which has a very fine sand in the paint to help with slipping.  The floors get hosed down every evening.

  17. We use a mop to clean up any soiled areas.  This is to ensure not to spread urine or feces around the play area.  This helps cut down on bacteria and urinary track infections.  Hence why they all go home CLEAN and DRY!

  18. On special occasions we will allow the dog owner to come and visit the Daycare.  On a general basis we do not let people go into the daycare area because of insurance reasons.  But Parents are more than welcomed to look through the windows to watch their dog play!

  20. Any signs of these issue we call immediately.  The Country Dogs staff know the signs to look for when it comes to illness, dehydration and such.
